But that's what stealth combat is all about. I know it would be risky for Eclipses to attack a cap ship that is protected by interceptors because the Eclipses would get shredded if they were detected. The tactics that CIG mentioned are in stark contrast to my theorycrafting about how the Eclipse would be used: as a stealth bomber. In that scenario, there's no advantage to using Eclipses instead of other bombers. If the cap ship had interceptors protecting it, they'd engage the fighters and would probably visually spot the incoming Eclipses, and warn the cap ship. Even if a cap ship didn't detect the Eclipses amongst the escort fighters, they'd recognize they were under attack and would be on guard. I understand that the Eclipse isn't a dogfighter, but if it's escorted by fighters that would defeat the purpose of a stealth bomber because the fighters would be detectable. The designers said that the Eclipse will need to be escorted by fighters to protect it against enemy fighters. Mostly info we knew already (like how the wings fold), some new info, and some bewildering info. This week's AtV about the Eclipse was a bit of a mixed bag. Regardless, the Eclipse is still limited to a bomber role and ineffective as a fighter. Perhaps there will be anti-fighter "swarm missile" (similar to the Rattler) or "proximity cluster bomb" S9 torpedoes, which can be used against groups of fighters. There's no indication that the Eclipse can carry any missiles except Size9 torpedoes, so it can't function as a missile boat, like the Gladiator. Whereas the Eclipse is strictly a stealth bomber and is probably hopeless in a dogfight. I've completed Vanduul & Pirate Swarm matches using the Gladiator, so it can handle itself in a dogfight. The Gladiator is more than just a torpedo bomber, it's a missile boat and a half decent fighter. I am also a little concerned with how much skill (or forced auto-pilot) you'll need to have it land on an Idris (on ATV they mentioned it will need to have its wings fold up to do so) - making it much easier (thus faster and safer) to land a Gladiator on an Idris. just skeptical about how fun it will be and if it will be too easy to pick off once spotted. I do love the stealth aspect and the look of the ship. one that you escort to its target then it flies back to re-load (as a confirmed carrier bomber - per ATV).

but I see it more as an NPC (or Wingman) ship (with Death of a Spaceman). Eclipse - I came very close to pulling the trigger on the Eclipse.

and even with dogfight options vs a fighter where an Eclipse will be more vulnerable.
